Dave and Ann Scott are driven by a desire to share with young people the life lessons and excitement that aviation in all its forms offers.
Each summer they hold a camp in which youth between the ages of 11 and 17 receive 3 days of free professional RC flight training, an Academy of Model Aeronautics membership, training manuals, and whenever possible, a ready-to-fly AeroScout trainer to take home.
The majority of our future military and commercial pilots will no doubt continue to have roots in model aviation, especially considering the increased use of drones by government and commercial industries.
One day the airliner you’re on, military aircraft or research drone you see on TV may be piloted by a product of your generous donation to the Young Ambassadors of Flight Scholarship program.
The annual Young Ambassadors of Flight event is made possible each year with the help of sponsor donations.
If you know a young person who would like to participate, or are interested in making a donation toward helping inspire kids to dream higher, please contact Dave & Ann to discuss further.
Great weather, great kids, supportive parents, and terrific sponsors all helped make last year's Youth event a great success!
Model aviation has a long track record of helping to teach young people aerodynamics and practical engineering. Many of today’s career engineers were active modelers as kids. Nearly every military and commercial pilot had their enthusiasm for aviation sparked building and flying model aircraft.
The inaugural (2022) Young Ambassadors of Flight training camp was a tremendous success. The 3 beginning students soloed an astonishing 25+ times over the course of the 3 days in 10-15 mph direct crosswinds, whereas the two aspiring show pilots and ambassadors for the sport claimed they learned more in the first 2 days than they had over the past 3 years! A few full-scale aviation VIP’s were also in attendance to provide additional inspiration to the young people. One of the students even treated all to a virtuoso violin performance during one of our after class meals at the local airport diner. 1st RC Flight School hopes to conduct more classes this year aimed at youth who would otherwise not be able to enter our wonderful sport. We want to especially thank our title sponsor whose support enabled several youth to realize what they are fully capable of.
